Hollywood Goes Spiritual

Meet the Movie Mystic: Stephen Simon

By

Irene A. Masiello

Hollywood, CA. [SNN] SpiritWise © spoke with Hollywood 's Stephen Simon, producer of the The Electric Horseman, The Goodbye Girl & Smokey & the Bandit about his latest venture: Spiritual Cinema Circle.

Simon shared his first experience with the mystical realm when, at age four, he became aware of the presence of the spirit of his deceased father. This incident led the way for a life long SpiritWise © existence for Simon paving the way towards this innovative, entertaining and enlightening film concept.

Many highly inspired people report these types of illuminating experiences crediting them with the awakening of a heightened state of awareness that serves to shape and define their extraordinary lives.

This is certainly true in Simon’s case for he applied this inspiration as co-founder of the Spiritual Cinema Circle. His vision for a more soulful type of filmmaking has created a movie(s)-of-the-month type subscription club focusing on the more spiritual aspects of our lives.

Selected movies are heart warming and spiritually enriching; they are minus the typical violence, sexual content and explicit language that characterize so much of mainstream Hollywood. Films are sent around the world to members of the Circle in 60 different countries. Local discussion groups connecting those who have viewed the movies provide a venue for reviewing and expanding on the inSPIRITional © concepts.

This phenomenon is becoming our nation’s fastest-growing home delivery DVD film club. This innovative genre of film addresses the Zeitgeist and our growing spiritual awareness

Simon pointed out that while movies of interest to him and his organization are spiritual in content they are not religious. He explained: “spirituality generally entails a more personal, inner directed and individual experience of the Divine. Religion,” he continued, “reflects teaching of a particular organized group that, in general, present specific rules, regulations and rituals that must be followed in order to experience Divine.”

A Gallop poll suggests that most Americans are spiritual rather than religious with 72 percent of those surveyed saying their lives, because of their faith, have purpose and meaning. Many of us express that while we are spiritual we are not necessarily affiliated with organized religion.

Spiritual Cinema Circle has attracted the attention of some very big names in and outside of the spiritual transformation sweeping our nation from Deepak Chopra to Newsweek Magazine.

Steven Simon expressed his incredibly inspiring words to SpiritWise © , a title that delighted him, stating: “many people are searching for meaning in their lives. They need to know that we are a community via the Internet. The mantra is this: we are the ones we have been waiting for. Make it happen for yourself; practice is over! ‘Jump’ from the mountain and know that there will be a bridge to catch you.”
