Great News:

InSPIRITional Journalism Is Born

Recently, SpiritWise reported the birth of spiritual cinema. However, in 1997, a publication called The Starlight Network News introduced spiritual journalism in NYC.

The Starlight Network, a group of “like minds and kindred spirits©,” utilized this publication to announce its schedule of meetings featuring alternative health practitioners as speakers presenting information about holistic modalities. Also included were articles about spirituality & good news.

Its mantra remains a great quote by anthropologist Margaret Mead: “never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” Starlight succeeded.

Through HealthWise Magazine, in what publisher, editor and columnist called “a classic win-win,” efforts to provide our community with information developed further by addressing what good health always is: a balance of mind, body and, most importantly, SPIRIT.

Meanwhile, Starlight’s monthly meetings at the Flushing Free Synagogue provided our community with up-close exposure to alternative modalities. Meetings were social yet vastly educational gatherings for seekers of holistic/spiritual insights. People from all walks of life joined together, shared, participated and grew in spirit.

One of Starlight’s members, Alexandra Tarasko, RN, a nursing professor at Queensborough Community College took the Starlight inSPIRITion © back to the college. Through hers and others cutting edge work Queensborough developed the first Associate’s Degree in massage therapy in the history of any City University of New York college. Professor Tarasko credits The Starlight Network with raising her consciousness and making this innovative program a reality.

Again Starlight moves forward taking its inSPIRITional © journalism global on the Internet at www.StarlightNetworkNews.com. It is believed that what we focus on expands, therefore, SNN: the inSPIRITional news network © is reporting what is optimistic, positive and faith filled for, even in deep tragedy, we are often educated in spirit.

The goal of SNN is to reverse the frame of mainstream media’s sensational and negative reporting. SNN visualizes the glass half full and provides exposure to the positive aspects of our world.

It has been said that within every crisis there is a seed of a miracle. The Starlight Network News seeks to elaborate on the benevolence in the human spirit beckoning the focus on the everyday courage and hope displayed by ordinary people in celebration of the miraculous that mainstream usually overlooks.

The spiritual component is, for the most part, missing from our culture thereby necessitating us to consciously add it. We consume vitamins, join gyms and saturate our minds and bodies with all kinds of things but until and unless we add the spirituality mandated by true holistic living our lives will remain empty. We can stay focused on our physical image and how Madison Avenue defines it or we can honor the true essence of ourselves: our soul.

Why not turn off the TVs and radios and listen to less news and more music. Why not stop reading sensational journalism even though your humanness is fascinated by the horrors in our world and, instead, read great literature.

Seek nature and behold the written word of God. Written by humans, the Bible states what God was purported to have said and done. However, there is no doubt that God created nature and, therefore, being close to it will always offer the opportunity to see the Divine at work.

Many ask: “why is there so much bad news?” Why not choose to seek out inSPIRITion © about the magnificent resilience of the human spirit? Exercise free will; make a choice. Remember, what you focus on expands.

Join “like minds and kindred spirits changing the world one person at a time and let it begin with you” by getting enthusiastic (from the Greek meaning “inspired by God”) about good news in science proving spirituality’s very tangible value, nature, music, hope, film, pets, health, kids, books, courage, etc.
