We are inspired by the memory of a Viet Nam vet
who won the Bronze Star for his courage…please read on.

The Starlight Network & the Starlight Network News (SNN) were established in 1997 in New York City. Its goals were an inSPIRITional effort to raise consciousness in the community about alternatives in healthcare modalities and living as soul-centered beings. We aspired as a group to change our beliefs in an effort to create a better life for ourselves. The major focus was SPIRIT, the missing ingredient in American culture and clarifying that holistic means mind, body and SOUL.

Now, in a world fraught with bad news a new direction must be taken. The original Starlight Network News had an in print circulation of 5,000. However, because of the Internet we can and will carry the STARLIGHT spirit around the globe.

To that end, Starlight acted in the past and changed its world. It and its members brought awareness to an academic community, a neighborhood and, perhaps, exponentially to the world.Starlight's influence and participation in the community is credited with raising consciousness and assisting many.  The Starlight spirit further served as inspiration for a local college's progressive academic leadership in the formation of its first system wide accredited degree in massage therapy.

Martin M. Masiello

March 14, 1950-February 22, 1986

Marty's selfless acts of courage brought honor upon himself, his family, his unit & the United States of America for service above & beyond the call of duty in the Republic of South Vietnam.

In October of 1969, as a member of the 82nd. Airborne, Marty, called Junior by his friends and family, repeatedly entered a crashed, burning & exploding US Air Force Shadow Gunship to rescue 5 Air Force crew-members.

Marty was awarded the Bronze Star, the Soldier's Medal for Valor, the Air Force Service Cross, et al. in December, 1969.

We thought we'd grow old together,
Having fun like we always did

For in lonely silence you hid

So many of y/our brothers joined you,
Ashamed of serving & what we all did

Your life and time remind us
Of the magnitude of what you did

You were so handsome, strong and tender

Martin M. Masiello receives the Bronze Star on December 14, 1969 during a field ceremony in Viet Nam. This site is named for and inspired by the spirit that propelled 19-year old Marty to risk his life to save total strangers.
